Comp 7220 Research Methodologies UofM - CompSci:
R11 (September 2010 - April 2011)

First class:
Friday September 10 at 12:30 p.m. in E2-165 EITC (basement, NE corner).
Class schedule:
Regular class time will be Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 11:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. in 315 Buller.

To accommodate other speakers, we may have classes at other times and days. Check the class schedule to be sure when the next class is. (Also read the next item.)

Seminar time:
You are also required to keep the 1:00 to 2:15 p.m. slot open on Tuesdays and Thursdays as this slot is reserved for Department meetings, seminars, and presentations, though presentations may also happen at other times. Part of the course requirement is attendance at departmental seminars. We may sometimes also have classes during this slot to accommodate other speakers or other scheduling problems.
Required text:
"Writing for Computer Science" by Justin Zobel, Springer, 2nd edition. (ISBN 1852338024). Please ask your supervisor if you can borrow a copy, as some faculty members own extra copies. (If they don't have one, ask me.) This book can also be ordered from the Springer website or amazon.ca. I have not placed a book order with the bookstore.
R.O.A.S.S. document:
This document is the course outline. It is like a contract between the instructor and student detailing how the course will work. Thus, if you want to know something about the course, check here first.
("R.O.A.S.S." stands for "Responsibility of Academic Staff to Students". This document is required by university regulations; see the university Calendar --- look under "policies".)
Internet resources:
Links to various useful related sites, as suggested by past and present instructors and students.
