EVO: Star Trek Outfits

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Each outfit will need to have an image rendered to represent them. Here is a scan of some rough sketches I've done. There are also some invented outfit images at the bottom of this page. Their intent is to give us a starting point and provide inspiration. Other inventions are welcome.

For the UFP, the torpedo outfit seen in the original Escape Velocity worked marvelously, and beam weapons can be modified with new sounds to become the standard UFP starship phaser. Both could be red. Exceptions include the Defiant's Quantum Torpedoes (yellow) fired in pairs.

Romulans used disruptor beams and plasma charges (green), while everyone else seems to use colour varied beam/torpedo weapons: Dominion (purple); Cardassian (yellow); Ferengi (?).

Corrections welcome.

United Federation of Planets

Outfit NameNotes
Escape Pod "A course of last resort, the standard-issue UFP Escape Pod can be installed into the outer hull of most ships in order to make emergency egress possible. Those who refuse to have one installed often state (either bravely or naively) that captains should always go down with the ship."
Star Trek: First Contact
scene 1 scene 2 scene 3
Bussard Ramscoop

"Named for the 20th century physicist and mathematician Robert Bussard, the Bussard Ramscoop emanates ionizing radiation and a magnetic field to attact interstellar hydrogen atoms for use in replenishing the deuterium matter supply."
Fuel +0.375 u/sec
SIR Generator

"The Structural Integrity Field (SIR) Generator provides power to a network of forcefields surrounding the hull of a ship. This field compensates for severe structural loads which may exceed the design limits of the spaceframe, allowing a ship to reach greater top speeds."
Speed: +150 AU/hr
Plasma Injector "Installing a plasma injector can boost the acceleration curve on any ship by tapping into the primary EPS conduit and feeding the power flow directly into the impulse reaction chamber."
Accel: +150
RCS Upgrade

"Rather than rely on the poor performance and slow response time from a ship's standard maneuvering thrusters, a Reaction Control System (RCS) Upgrade can greatly enhance a ship's turning rate."
Turn: +30 degrees
Navigation Sensor "A navigational sensor array improves a ship's detection of both ships and planets. It also allows for a clear mass differentiation between smaller and larger ships or planets, aiding in the identification of either."
Tactical Scanner "A tactical scanner uses various recognition protocols, such as warp signatures, vessel configuration, and broadcasted transponder signals, to identify nearby ships as either friend or foe."
Compensator "Many solar systems have high levels of ioning radiation which can wreak havok with the sensor arrays on most ships. A scan compensator will dynamically adjust a ship's sensor array matrix to ignore such broadband interference and will improve the detection performance of sensor systems considerably."
Probe Launcher "Probe launchers are used to load and fire pre-programmed Class X probes."
Class V Probe

"With its fully autonomous operation and dual mode warp engine, the Class V probe charts itself a circuitous route and accelerates out of the system almost immedately after launch. Once at warp, the probe uses its extended passive data-gathering systems to relay any information on systems or bases in the immediate vicinity back to the ship's navigational computer."
Phaser Bank (bow) "PHASed Energy Rectification. (more)"
Phaser Bank (stern) "PHASed Energy Rectification. (more)"
Phaser Bank (port) "PHASed Energy Rectification. (more)"
Phaser Bank (starboard) "PHASed Energy Rectification. (more)"
Phaser Array (fore) "Turret-like. (more)"
Phaser Array (aft) "Turret-like. (more)"
Photon Torpedo Launcher "Photon torpedo launchers are used to load and fire various models of photon torpedoes."
Photon Torpedo Mark I

"Although entirely unguided, the Mark I offers the best speed and reload performance of any launchable photon torpedo weapon available. Housed in a tritanium-duranium alloy casing, the photon torpedo's trademark glow while in flight is due to ripples in the magnetic containment field surrounding the matter/antimatter warhead."
Photon Torpedo Mark II

"By trading off much of the speed and reload performance and a small portion of the warhead's capacity for a new guidance system, the Mark II photon torpedo is an improvement over the original Mark I, providing an exceptional turning rate while tracking designated targets. An aggressor would be hard pressed to avoid this torpedo at close quarters."
Photon Torpedo Mark III

"The Mark III photon torpedo addresses the lack of tracking speed that was evident in its predecessor by sacrificing some of the Mark II's agility in exchange for a slightly greater payload and an improved top speed. It is this balance between systems that has made the Mark III the weapon of choice for many starship captains."
Quantum Torpedo Launcher "A quantum torpedo launcher is used to load and fire quantum torpedoes."
Quantum Torpedo Mark I "Realizing the need for a significantly higher yield from its torpedo systems, UFP weapon designers decided to harness energy at the quantum level. By forcing neutronium electrons into highter orbits, the electrons are placed in a quantum state far beyond normal. At the moment of detonation, the energy released is enormous and displays the characteristic prismatic flash as the electrons fall through quantum states. Even without a guidance system aboard, the Mark I quantum torpedo is an extremely effective offensive weapon."
Mine Launcher "A mine launcher is used to release and arm any number of mines."
Gravitic Mine

"Old technologies never die, they simply gain higher yields. And the gravitic mine is no exception: the massive payload of these free-floating weapons is detonated when the onboard gravimetric sensors detect the hull of an approaching vessel. Their small size and low sensor profile make clearing them almost impossible."
Antimatter Mine

"Wrapping a magnetic field generator around the casing, a small amount of antimatter can be included in the payload of these mines. The gain in explosive yield more than offsets the slower preparation and reload time these delecate weapons require."
Cloaked Mine

"Finding a means to make mines a threat in open space, without any sensor interference or asteroid fields to hide them in, has always been problematic. The development of the UFP's cloaked mine solved this problem and, since the mines cannot be scanned and therefore avoided, the design has increased the chances of a passing vessel detonating each one. Properly deployed, a net of cloaked mines can wreak havok on even the most powerful fleet."
