Ship Classes in EVO: Star Trek

----------------------------------------------------------------------

To be truer to Star Trek, the concepts of missiles/rockets and fighters may have to be revamped or removed altogether.

Some discussion took place which suggested planetary based fighters be replaced with "drones" or "satellites" along with small ships (along the size/power/class of Peregrine fighters), while ship based fighters are only those large enough to carry a few runabouts (Prometheus is a case whereby each of its two extra ship parts is carried in a bay).

Cardassian orbital weapons platforms have been added.

United Federation of Planets (UFP)

ClassDescription
Personnel Shuttle (Type 6)

This is the same as the EV Shuttlecraft, but should have one "phaser" type weapon.

"A principal means of transportation for both civilians and Starfleet members alike, the Type 6 Personnel Shuttle has a proven history of reliability, maneuverability, and ease of maintenance. However, its small size and minimal cargo capacity precludes large shipments of goods or passengers."

Danube Class

Very close to the EV Executive Transport, but with better weaponry.

"From individuals who travel frequently to Starfleet admirals on the go, the Danube class runabout offers fast transportation in comfort and style. It excels at long range service and is quite capable of defending itself in almost any small skirmish."

Sydney Class

Almost identical to the EV Courier, but with minimal weaponry

"The Sydney class transport is one of the most common delivery vehicles in UFP space. It can move freight and passengers equally well and, because of its exceptional speed and range, it is in high demand by private firms everywhere."

EV Courier:
Speed: 250 AU/h Accel: 155 Turn: 1200/sec Shields: 15u
Charge: 0.15u/sec Armor: 25u Guns: 2 (max) Turrets: 1 (max)

Mass: 75 tons Crew: 10 Avail: 1 Cost: 180,000 cr
Weapons: 1 Laser Turret
Oberth Class

Similar to EV Scoutship, but with more crew.

"With the edges of UFP space continually expanding, the extreme range of the Oberth class starship has proven itself invaluable with many pilots. Primarily used for planetary survey and deep-space missions, the Oberth is a comfortable vessel to explore space in."

EV Scoutship:
Speed: 275 AU/h Accel: 187 Turn: 1200/sec Shields: 30u
Charge: 0.24u/sec Armor: 5u Guns: 4 (max) Turrets: -

Mass: 50 tons Crew: 2 Avail: 1 Cost: 80,000 cr
Weapons: 2 Laser Cannons
Constellation Class

Very close to the EV Argosy, but with less cargo.

"The Constellation class starship offers a multi-role capability with ample room for conversion, depending on the need. Well-armoured and well-armed, this starship is quite at home defending itself from any aggressor and is very popular with planetary militias and border patrol units. The only drawback is its poor cargo capacity, but this can be overcome if weapons systems are set aside for more storage space."

EV Argosy:
Speed: 200 AU/h Accel: 125 Turn: 900/sec Shields: 35u
Charge: 0.11u/sec Armor: 40u Guns: 3 (max) Turrets: 2 (max)
Space: 60 tons Cargo: 130 tons Fuel: 400u (4 jumps) Length: 52m
Mass: 215 tons Crew: 28 Avail: 2 Cost: 750,000 cr
Weapons: 2 Laser Turrets
Miranda Class

Definately similar to the EV Corvette, with with a few less weapons.

"With the need for a deep-space weapons platform capable of protecting both smaller exploratory ships and offering support to larger capital ships, the Miranda class was designed to bring its heavier firepower to those situations which require it. Its generous cargo capacity allows the Miranda to carry a considerable payload between systems."

EV Corvette:
Speed: 300 AU/h Accel: 202 Turn: 900/sec Shields: 70u
Charge: 0.26u/sec Armor: 30u Guns: 5 (max) Turrets: 2 (max)
Space: 50 tons Cargo: 60 tons Fuel: 400u (4 jumps) Length: 30m
Mass: 135 tons Crew: 37 Avail: 4 Cost: 2,500,000 cr
Weapons: 2 Missle Racks + 8 Missiles
         2 Laser Turrets,
         1 Rocket Launcher + 4 Rockets
         1 Javeline Pod + 60 Javelins
Excelsior Class [Refit]

Quite similar to the EV Kestrel, but without fighters.

"The sleek lines of the Excelsior class came from the need to design a starship that would use a new engine prototype and slip through warp-space far more efficiently than any vessel before. Although the new engine design failed, its deceptively delicate appearance remained and the Excelsior now carries an awesome array of firepower where ever it goes."

EV Kestrel:
Speed: 225 AU/h Accel: 187 Turn: 900/sec Shields: 130u
Charge: 0.33u/sec Armor: 50u Guns: 6 (max) Turrets: 3 (max)
Space: 120 tons Cargo: 80 tons Fuel: 500u (5 jumps) Length: 80m
Mass: 230 tons Crew: 196 Avail: 5 / (73) Cost: 10,000,000 cr
Weapons: 1 Torpedo Launcher + 4 Torpedos
         2 Missle Racks + 10 Missiles
         2 Proton Turrets
         1 Lightning Bay + 2 Lightnings
Defiant Class

On par with Excelsior [Refit] as per DS9 "Paradise Lost", but more agile, less cargo and crew, fewer weapons overall, though more powerful.

"Publically described as an escort vessel, this secretly designed warship prototype is fast, sturdy, and exceptionally well armed. The only UFP vessel to ever make use of ablative armour and quantum torpedoes, the Defiant packs quite a punch for its diminutive size."

         2 Proton Turrets
         1 Lightning Bay + 2 Lightnings
Ambassador Class

Miranda weaponry and cargo, speed between Excelsior and Nebula, Excelsior maneuverability, Nebula crew.

"Needing to explore further into unknown territories on the edges of UFP space, the Ambassador class cruiser was born. Although its weapons systems and shielding are not as robust as they could be, they are quite adequate for most engagements, and its greater range and cargo capacity make traversing distant systems much easier."

Nebula Class

Excelsior weaponry, but more maneuverable, greater speed, minimal cargo capacity, greater fuel consumption, greater crew.

"The Nebula class is an improvement over the larger and heavier Galaxy class starship it so closely resembles. Its compact design, modular weapons pod, and improved performance all combine to make the Nebula a state-of-the-art combat vessel."

Galaxy Class

Greater cargo, greater crew, greater weaponry, less maneuverable, lower top speed, three (3) runabouts.

"A proven workhorse in UFP space, the Galaxy class is part deep-space explorer and part luxury liner. Its massive storage bays can handle anything from housing transplanted colonists to storing small ships for repair, while the weapons systems cover all possible threats and can dispatch an aggressor in short order. Its longer range and supportive complement of Danube class runabouts make up for its less-than-agile maneuverability."

Prometheus Class

This class will allow the use of launchable modules of the ship. Trentent Tye's plug-in, using two "fighter bays" to hold each of the other two ship parts, illustrates it beautifully.

"The latest starship in the UFP inventory, the Prometheus class incorporates rejenerative shielding, ablative hull armour, and an entirely new concept into its design: a multi-vector assault mode allows the ship to detach into three components, allowing it to not only out-number its opponent, but out-gun them as well. This unique approach has made it necessary to remove much of the ship's cargo space for automated control systems, reducing the required crew complement in the process."

Cardassian

ClassDescription
Orbital Weapons Platform

Pondering.

"Uses rejenerative force fields; has 1000 plasma torpedoes; fires its torps in tight volleys of 5; torps have very long range and high speed."

Plan view (size approx. that of UFP shuttle)

This planetary defense "ship" will have no acceleration/thrust component so
it should appear to simply launch from the surface and attack; it should
have a high turning rate, decent shields, one forward torpedo launcher
(requiring alignment to fire), and one beam weapon (both yellow). When a
planet is attacked, at least 10 OWPs should be launched along with the 10
normally in orbit.
