Conor and Frances on the Grandview trail headed down into the corridor our lunch spot Several abandoned mining tunnels can be explored complete with rails, carts, and shovels. These mazes go on for hundreds of metres with frequent random forks. Bring a headlamp and Geiger counter.

Reservations are recommended for backcountry permits in the canyon. Reserve three months in advance. The Bright Angel Campground seems the be the major congestion; we were able to get four backcountry permits for the Tonto trail on the morning we hiked down.

Vehicles require a $10 NPS entry permit obtainable at the park gate.

See NPS Grand Canyon website for details.
