Matt's Diary: Day 7
Steph has inspiration last night to call up a friend in Canmore; Mrs. Fraser is the mother of Steph's sister Evelyne's boyfriend Luke and makes us most welcome in her amazing house with 3 floors, stellar mountain views from large windows, amazing bathrooms and a guest room with 2 rocking chairs and very comfortable beds. A pleasant session of chatting to Mrs. F., playing her piano, cleaning, and much sleeping ensues. In the morning we have bacon, eggs and lots of toast and head on our way. Matt sees the doctor in Canmore and collects more magic potions for his lingering throat problem. The weather looks dubious but nonetheless we pitch the tent at Protection Mt. Campground, and head for the "Back of the Lake" (Louise) climbing mecca. Well, we get as far as the camp exit and Steph suffers a massive attack of muppetry by posting the keys into the payment slot, or so he thought. He subsequently sets about hot-wiring his car while Matt pokes around in the bushes nearby. After busting his knife and claiming total memory loss of the previous 5 minutes the keys appear as if by magic, about half a yard from the car door. To cap it off, the heavens open and our climbing trip to Lake Louise degenerates to hanging out with the regular tourists in the rain, listening to the Swiss alpenhorn player, and buying tat in the Chateau Louise tacky-gift-city.
