Speaker: Andrew Buck Title: Intellectual Property and Privacy: Legal Issues for Computer Scientists Abstract: Computer scientists have a lot of tools in their toolboxes, but are any as valuable as their knowledge? The expanding legal issues related to intellectual property and privacy are becoming more relevant to computer scientists every day. This presentation will provide an introduction to intellectual privacy topics such as copyright and trade-marks and discuss how these topics are relevant to computer scientists. It will also provide an overview of Canadian private sector privacy law and explain how privacy laws can affect computer scientists.
