Doings and Interests
While I am nowhere near self absorbed enough to keep a blog, I
do update some of the things I have been up to here from time to
time. Mostly this is a catchall for things that have nothing to do with
school and don't fit anywhere else here. Also note that just
because some of this is badly dated doesn't mean that I currently have
no life at all :)
Picking Up Yukon on CBC
I have been back and forth to the Grand Canyon a few times.
I tried, to the degree I had the opportunity, to document the construction of our new building while it was being built. All that is here.
- I am known to cook without burning things from time to time. There are image-enhanced step by step recipes for a couple of my family's holiday traditions here - Vinarterta and Swedish Bread. These were done partly so that family that had never made them had all the secret details, and because there was a time when having a digital camera was a pretty cool thing.

Exploring Mayan Ruins. I've made a number of trips to the Yucatan peninsula (as half of North America seems to now!) specifically to see Mayan Ruins, and I've got a page of pictures and advice on seeing some of the more easily-accessible ruins. I was recently asked to write a chapter in a travel guide based on some of the stuff you see here in this page, so I guess this is a way to get it for free :)

Some of what I've been reading aside from the usual plethora of technical papers. A random mix of highbrow and junk food (my old high school English teacher still occasionally chastises me on my choices). It's an odd collection based on the interests you see in these pages, those of others I know, and a habit of impulse-buying really old books, the kind that are bound in leather and smell like Scotch (or does Scotch smell like them?)

The Flood of 1997. Yes, for you non-locals, it flooded here in the Spring of 1997, and it was an interesting time. I tossed together a few pictures I took of my own experiences during that time and put them up after it was over.

Shad Valley. An incredible summer program I became quite attached to.

Pop Culture. I'm always interested in what passes for culture in this postmodern world we live in. Douglas Coupland's writing dwells on this a lot, and that's what really started to get me interested in this. I've got a lot of links on this subject on my links page.

Cacti. Kind of a random thing, but I have a lot of them, and they're really interesting organisms. They're compact, usually fairly symmetric and elegant, and pretty much built for speed as far as plants go.
